FRIDAY NOTES for the week of February 1, 2015

Here's what's happening for the week of February 1, 2015:

1. This Sunday is Communion Sunday, and we will have a guest minister - Rick Barlow, who is a pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist and also is with the American Baptist Foundation. This is a good day, also, to remember to bring a sack of non-perishables for the Food Bank barrel - it's filled up almost to the top - but a lot of grocery bags and not too much food!

2. The Your Story question is: Since you’ve given your life to Christ, what has changed about you, what’s different; “What’s New with You?”

3. Linea has tickets for sale - and seating charts - for our Valentine's Banquet. They are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. We have planned a great meal and entertainment - you won't want to miss this!

4. Ed has done a lot of work on our website and the results are marvelous! He has put up the recordings of recent sermons and also a few from further back - I have enjoyed listening to the sermons - with no distractions - and hearing things again that sort of slipped by my brain at the time. Ed would like your feedback, comments, suggestions - so please take a few minutes to visit: http://www.wedgwoodchurch.org/sermons.htm.

5. There will be no Bible Study this Tuesday; it will resume on the 10th, with Bruce leading it - and Pastor Wim will be back by the 17th. Also, there will be no Sermon Discussion on the 1st and the 8th, because Pastor Wim is out of town.

FRIDAY NOTES for the week of January 25, 2015

Here's what's happening for the week of January 25, 2015:

1. Movie Night this month was a big success, with about a dozen people attending to watch The Hundred-Foot Journey! Next Up: MARCH 21 we'll be watching Son of God.

2. On Sunday (1/25), following the Worship Service, we will have a meeting of the Valentine's Banquet "committee." We welcome your participation, and need someone to take charge of the entertainment and someone to take charge of the decorations. At our last meeting we tossed around a few more ideas on each of these items, but now need to make decisions and plunge in to getting this all done. We will sandwich this in before/during our enjoying the turkey soup, and before the LLT presents the proposed 2015 Budget.

3. We will have VB Tickets for sale starting this Sunday - they are $20 per adult and $10 per child age 12 and under. She also has a seating chart so that you may select the table of your choice for yourself or your group.

4. On Tuesday, after Bible Study, we will get together for our first Lunch Bunch of 2015. You are welcome to join our happy group, and ride with someone from the church around 11:30 or meet us at the Old Country Buffet in Lynnwood at 12:00 noon. We have some coupons, so be sure to get one from her on Sunday if you are coming with us!

5. The Your Story question for Sunday is: Tell about a time when someone really listened to you deeply. How could you tell s/he was listening deeply? How did you feel? In what other ways did the experience influence you?

FRIDAY NOTES for the week of January 18, 2015

Here's what's happening for the week of January 18, 2015:

1. Tomorrow's worship will be at the usual 11:00, but the coffee time will be minimal - the Seahawks game starts at noon, and many of us will be dashing off to our TV's! Linea will NOT be selling Valentine's Banquet tickets - she will do so starting on the 25th.

2. The special MLK Worship Service will be on Monday - 6 pm at the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Kent. If you have been told that it is in Renton, be assured that it has not moved - but the Postal Service changed the address to Kent - it is in the same place it has always been - an easy shot off of Hwy 167.

3. The Soup and Sandwich event has been moved to NEXT Sunday, the 25th. The church will provide the homemade soup and you provide your own sandwich, if desired - and bring an extra to share - in case someone forgets, or we have a visitor.

4. The Church Growth forum has been tabled - the items of discussion will be brought up in other ways in future Sundays - Pastor Wim will keep us informed.

5. We will squeeze in a Valentine's Banquet meeting on the 25th - it is important that we get "reports" from each participant so we can finish our planning. We have already decided that the Decorating Committee will start at 5:00 p.m. on Friday the 13th in the Fellowship Hall.

FRIDAY NOTES for the week of January 11, 2015

Here's what's happening for the week of January 11, 2015:

1. This Sunday, after worship and during coffee time, we will have a Valentine's Banquet meeting: If you are going to provide entertainment, please come prepared with details about what you will be doing and whether you will need any special equipment, etc.; We will be firming up teams of helpers for setup, serving, cleanup, etc. so we can match tasks with people; we will make firm decisions about decorations and food. Our next meeting will be on the 25th to touch base and make sure that we are on track.

2. Next Sunday, the 18th, we will be savoring turkey soup, prepared using the leftover Thanksgiving turkey. Traditionally, we each bring a sandwich, with a little extra to share, but you are welcome to enjoy the soup with just a few crackers. Pastor Wim will be presenting a forum about Church Growth in Wedgwood. This presentation will review interesting current realities facing all churches, with particular interest on the demographics of the Wedgwood Neighborhood. Questions and discussion about how the information can shape decisions by our congregation will be included throughout the hour. (If the Seahawks are playing at the same time, the forum may be postponed.)

3. Monday, the 19th, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and there will be a special worship service at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, starting at 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 19300 - 108th Avenue SE in Kent - a short distance east of Hwy 167. You may want to carpool with someone, as it will be after dark.

4. Ongoing, the Sermon Discussion group will start at 12:20 on Sundays, except on potluck Sunday.

This Month's Focus: Opportunities to Help

In addition to our weekly tithes and offerings and four annual special offerings (America for ChristOne Great Hour of SharingWorld Mission Offering, and Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering), our church has a Fellowship Fund, which assists those in the congregation with emergency expenses, such as medical emergencies or unexpected home repairs. We have designated the first Sunday of each month to specifically remember this outreach.

The University District Food Bank is located at University Christian Church, but we have a barrel in our Fellowship Hall for food donations to it. Cash donations are also appreciated and are used to purchase supplemental nutritious food items.

University Congregational church operates the University Churches Emergency Fund (UCEF), which serves Northeast Seattle residents, providing emergency funds to help people in a number of ways—with rent, transportation costs, and utilities. Funds are limited, so UCEF is able to help each patron only once a year, and then for only $50.00 per person.

To give to any of these funds, please place your donation in the offering plate with your envelope marked accordingly. Our treasurer will send it on. By taking advantage of these opportunities to help our fellow church members and neighbors, near and far, we will make a positive difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters.

FRIDAY NOTES for the week of January 4, 2015
